A Night of Opera

Join us in the sanctuary for an extremely special night of singing featuring star Ukrainian tenor Leonid Shoshyn and American soprano Sarah Tucker. The program will include operatic favorites, including arias and love duets from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, and Gounod’s Faust. It will also include a special treat of Ukrainian song, performed by Mr. Shoshyn. 

The FF Collective is passionate about amplifying diverse voices, and we are so excited to present this concert. Attendance for this concert will be a free will donation with proceeds benefiting House of Ukraine in San Diego (an organization in San Diego that provides cultural education, humanitarian aid and more) and the CPC Performing Arts Series.

About the Signers

 
 

Leonid Shoshyn: The acclaimed Ukrainian tenor, Leonid Shoshyn, has astonished audiences across the world with his heroic voice and passionate portrayal of operatic characters. As a soloist with the Odessa National Opera in Ukraine, Shoshyn has performed an extensive repertoire of dramatic tenor roles including Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca; Canio in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci; Manrico in Verdi’s Il Trovatore; and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly. He has also graced the stages of Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hague National Opera, Municipal Theater De Domijnen, and Aalto Theater Essen. This year, Shoshyn made his United States debut in the role of Prince Calaf in Puccini's Turandot at the Gulfshore Opera in Florida, and returns to the US for several concert performances, including a role debut of Turiddu in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana. Shoshyn completed his training at the Odessa National Music Academy Named After A. V. Nezhdanova, and Akademia Operowa: Teatr Wielki Opera Narodowa.

 
 

SARAH TUCKER: Described as “vocally glorious” (San Diego Story) and by Opera News as a “standout” with “impeccable pitch and phrasing,” acclaimed soprano Sarah Tucker is a must-see performer in leading opera houses across the United States and beyond. 
Last season, Ms. Tucker made her Sarasota Opera début as Micaëla in Carmen and returned to Gulfshore Opera as Liù in Turandot. She also recently appeared with Fargo Moorhead Opera as Mimì in La bohème, Houston Grand Opera as Volunteer Girl in Another City, and the Dayton Philharmonic to premiere My Sister’s Voice by composer Reena Esmail. In the upcoming 2024-2025 season she returns to San Diego Opera to sing Mimì in La bohème and will appear as a soloist in Maryland Opera’s concert Morte e Vita, singing excerpts from Puccini’s operas La bohème and Manon Lescaut.

Ms. Tucker recently made her Dallas Symphony début when she stepped in for an ailing colleague in Verdi’s Requiem at Highland Park Presbyterian. She also made her role début as Freia in Das Rheingold with Virginia Opera, brought her Adina in L’elisir d’amore to Dayton Opera, made a celebrated role début as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte with San Diego Opera, joined North Carolina Opera as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, returned to Gulfshore Opera for a reprise of her Mimì in La bohème, and performed Adina in L’elisir d’amore with Opera Maine.
